A study by the Conference Board and Duke University on offshoring trends among U.S., European, and Australian firms, found a slowing in the creation of new captive offshore operations and greater interest in the benefits of outsourcing to large offshore service providers.
Nearly two-thirds of the surveyed respondents are planing new offshoring initiatives during the next three years.
The report on the study (“Financial Services Offshoring: Moving Toward Fewer Captives and Global Cost competitiveness,” issued May 28) also found financial insitutions are considering nearshore alternatives in Argentina and Costa Rica as well as lower-cost alternatives in U.S. cities such as Jacksonville (Florida) and Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill (North… Read the rest
Making the Pulse List today are some areas where there’s a new beat with potential wide ramifications for the outsourcing world. The outcomes of these trailblazing activites remains to be seen, but players are plotting new courses throughout the world.
(1) Germany. A report from PricewaterhouseCoopers and NASSCOM (India’s National Association of Software and Services Companies) focuses on business-growth opportunities for India’s outsourcing service providers in Germanic countries. Nearly all of the companies in these nations are small or midsize businesses. Most have a severe shortage of IT and engineering talent, and many are among the early adopters of outsourcing. However, they prefer nearshore rather than offshore providers. India’s outsourcing providers with… Read the rest
In golf, players sometimes get an opportunity for a mulligan, rather like a “do-over” shot after a poor shot. Wouldn’t it be nice to be granted a mulligan in an outsourcing relationship? Over the past decade-plus as I’ve spoken with hundreds of buyers of outsourcing services, I almost always ask: “If you could do it all over again from the beginning, what would you do differently the second time around?”
Among the top five items on the list of” do-overs,” they cite are the following:
- Changing the pricing model
- Bringing in an outside consultant to help us get the
Who would be on your list of movements pulsating through the outsourcing world today? Here are the three that made my list.
REMEMBER WHEN?
You probably won’t be surprised to see that ACS’s acquisition of ExcellerateHRO from HP (announced earlier this week) made the list. But it’s not because of what it signifies in the human resources market for ACS. It’s because this is a classic specimen that should remind us of the need for ensuring an outsourcing contract is flexible (if not short-term) to allow for exiting a contract sooner than anticipated. That’s not to say that customers now shifted from HP… Read the rest

Welcome to the first edition of my Outsourcing Pulse List. What is it? A periodic list of observations about what outsourcing industry companies and individuals do or say. The Pulse List will feature those that miss a beat, some that never miss a beat, those with new beats that radiate with wide ramifications, and sudden fluctuations. Curious, out-of-whack ideas, items of concern, and also insightful statements – that’s some of what you’ll find in the Pulse List. You may even find yourself or your company on the list.
Since this is the list’s debut, we’ll start with two lists –… Read the rest
The Asia-Pacific managed security services (MSS) market is forecasted to exceed US$4 billion by end-2015, with revenues rising at a compounded growth rate of 19.7 percent annually for the next five years.
Frost & Sullivan industry analyst Cathy Huang expects growing adoption for MSS by small and medium businesses (SMBs).
“As network security risks continue to mount and compliance mandates become more stringent, organisations are forced to implement an ever-increasing number of security technologies,” she says. “The managed model is a compelling option for SMBs who can ill-afford large capital expenditure (CAPEX) on security solutions, nor cope with the complexity… Read the rest
If a company is “the world’s largest,” others, including this blog, pay attention to what that business is doing in the market.
Johnson Controls Global WorkPlace Solutions is the world’s largest global real estate and facilities management business. Pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline just awarded Johnson Controls a five-year contract for workplace services in all GSK sites across North and South America, Europe, and China. Notably, it expands Johnson Controls’ footprint in Brazil and China.
Surfing the net a couple of days ago to stay on top of industry news as it happens, four articles caught my eye and took me off auto-pilot long enough to read every word.
The article in Gulf Times, a Qatar newspaper, began with this statement made by Azim Premji, the renowned Indian entrepreneur and chairman of Wipro:
“India is far from where it needs to be …. Country after country is stepping ahead.”
It seems to me that for a long time the media has treated the words “India” and “outsourcing” almost as though they were synonymous. That… Read the rest
